. Victoria & Albert Museum : des samplers....

Voici quelques magnifiques samplers rangés dans les vitrines-tiroirs du département textiles du Victoria & Albert Museum.

Le sampler anglais répertorié le plus ancien : il est signé Jane Bostocke et est daté de 1598.

"English sampler : dated 1598 and signed by Jane Bostocke.

Linen embroidered in coloured silks, metal thread, seed pearls and black beads in back, satin, chain, ladder, buttonhole, detached buttonhole, cross, arrowhead, interlacing, pattern couching, coral and two-sided Italian cross-stitches with speckling and bullion French knots.

The sampler is inscribed Jane Bostocke 1598 and below - Alice.Lee.was.borne.the.23.of.november.being.tuesday.in.the.after.noone.1596.

This is the earliest dated English sampler so far recorded."

"Coloured silks in satin, cross, tent and back stitches on woollen canvas."

Sampler anglais : Hannah Haynes - milieu du 18 ème siècle.

"English sampler : Mid 18 th century, signed Hannah Haynes. Embroidered with coloured silks and linen thread in satin, cross, Rococo, back stitches and French knots on linen with Hollie point insertions."

Sampler Dutch - 1739

"Worked on linen on coloured silks in cross-stitch, Algerian eye-stitch, back stitch and satin stitch."
